Jack and Jill - a nursery rhyme

Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 students at Penrith Public School learn about nursery rhymes in Term One. Each class looked at the rhyming words in Jack and Jill and came up with new rhyming pairs. Then we used the matrix to change the rhyme into a new version.

Jack and

Jill

Went up the

hill

To fetch a pail of

water.

Jack fell

down

And broke his

crown

And Jill came tumbling

after!

Here is Mr McLean’s version:

Jack and Jill

Went down the

mountain

To fetch some water from the

fountain.

Jill fell down and hurt her

knee

And Jack said,

"Gee!

It’s usually

me!"

SIK (English)’s version:

Jill and

Jack

Went out the

back

To try to find a

pet.

They saw a

toad

Out on the

road.

It was slippery and

wet!

K1FM's version:

Jack and

Jane

Went in the

rain

To jump into a

puddle.

Jack fell

down

And broke his

crown,

So Jane gave him a

cuddle.

 SIC (English)’s version:

Jack and

Will

Went down a

hill

To have themselves a

swim.

Jack bobbed up and

down

And nearly

drowned

And Will had to rescue

him.

 SII (English)’s version:

Jack and

Dane

Ran down the

lane

To find a big blue

house.

They had a

shock

And fell over a

rock.

There was a little

mouse!

SIS (English)’s version:

Jack and

Phil

Were feeling

ill

Mother fetched some

water.

Mum fell

down

It made her

frown.

She was rescued by her

daughter.

 SCH and SCLB’s version:

Jack went fishing for a

fish

To put it on a little

dish

So that Jill could

eat.

Jack used his

pail

But caught a

whale!

And Jill said, "I like

meat!"
